McCullough Pie Contest

Family in Texas did a pie contest so Carol & I decided it would be a good idea too. An excuse to get together and eat. We even purchased an official Pie Contest in a Box.

We had a good time and ate a lot!

The official Judges:
The judges had to taste each pie and rate them.

Plus we also had a Peoples choice winner. The winner from the judges and the peoples choice was the same. A Strawberry Rhubarb pie by Amy McGuire.  Second place went to Peggy & Rob and third place went to Carol.

The winners:

Some pies were a little odd, is that bacon on top?

We even had Pie music, all songs about pies.
I think everyone was a winner because we all got to eat and have a good time.

Hocking Hills KOA, near Logan, Ohio

Arrived here Tuesday. The Aliner Owners Club, Central Great Lakes Region, has a rally that starts Thursday. Very nice campground in the hills. Nice scenery and a lot of space between campers. Unusual for a KOA.

I believe there were 40 A-frames in attendance. The weather was great. Cool mornings and nice days.

John Pfeil had a couple Tech sessions that were well received.

Carol found a new favorite activity. Mining for gems. Of course everywhere we go she is always picking up rocks.

We went to a cave called Old Mans Cave. Carol said I was an old man and I needed to stand by the sign.  Nice little walk through this open cave.

We ate good too. Thursday night was hot dogs, beans and chili. Friday night was the pot luck with Ham. Saturday night KOA had ice cream sundaes. Sunday morning donuts and rolls I think. I didn't make it for Sunday breakfast, Carol made me biscuits and gravy, eggs and sausage.

Of course John had a couple of his famous fires.

This was another successful rally. We had a great time and look forward to the next one.

KOA - Paris Landing, Buchanon, Tennessee

Arrived here after being evicted from Land Between the Lakes due to the Government shut down.
This campground is new to KOA, the owners just took over. We liked Piney campground because there were a lot of bike riding places but this place has: Wi-Fi, cable, water, phone service, etc. So we adapted well.

Dennis Archer has a lot of Scamps and Casitas. Plus we had 4 Aliners, one motorhome and one travel trailer.

We visited, attended Tech sessions, ate good, and had a good time.

We plan on attending this again next year.

After a stop over in Kentucky we are heading to Ohio.

Piney Campground - Land Between the Lakes - Tennessee

The start of my retirement trip. We are attending a rally put on by Dennis Archer, an ex-Aliner owner. He now has a Scamp. This rally is for anyone but mostly Scamps and Casitas. We arrived on Monday, September 30 with about 10 units already there for a rally that starts on Thursday.

I picked a site close to the shower house. As soon as we got there Carol went to use it. She did but found no lights, no flush, and it looked abandoned. The next morning we found out why.
It was abandoned and they started tearing it down.

We didn't spend much time here. The Government shut occurred at midnight. We were evicted. They gave us until Wednesday to get out. Dennis Archer had possibly 50 units coming so he found a commercial campground that welcomed us, Paris Landing KOA.

We packed up and started to head out and the GMC Terrain would not start. Got a jump and hooked up and moved.

Retirement

After working for St. Louis County Department of Highways & Traffic for 39 years I finally retired.
Awesome!

Had a nice lunch at work and got some very nice gifts.

Out the door for the last time:

Afterwards went out for a couple of drinks. A great sendoff.
